Description

This is a very nice arrangement of “Jesus, Lover of My Soul” for cello (or bassoon) solo and piano. It has enough variety in the melody to keep it interesting, yet not so much that the hymn tune gets lost. This arrangement is definitely going into my standard rotation! There are a few notation issues to be aware of. The piano part has two eighth note pick-ups at the beginning. This isn’t reflected in the bassoon part. There aren’t any bowings or articulations written in the solo part. I didn’t like the three fermatas in measure 47, so I just slowed them all down a bit and went right into measure 48. I turned measure 53 into a 4/4 bar with two half notes (or you could consider it as a fermata on beat one). My accompanist also shortened the ending because I don’t like standing there awkwardly while the accompaniment finishes. Give it a try and let us know what you think!
