Silent Night (Valadez)

Description

This has become a very popular arrangement in Latter-day Saint circles. It sounds more contemporary than many other “Silent Night” arrangements, but it is still very appropriate for sacrament meeting. It is unique in that it has both piano and organ accompaniment, however the organ is optional and this arrangement can even be sung a cappella. The organ part is not difficult and is intended to support the choir.

The part writing is straightforward for the first couple of verses. The women have an uncomplicated “Ooh” section. The third verse incorporates a lot more movement in the vocal parts. You will really need to plan out where the breaths will go and such. Overall, this is a fresh take on an old favorite.
