Still, Still, Still (Sowa)

Description

Are you looking for an interesting, yet reverent, Christmas choral piece? Joseph Sowa’s arrangement of “Still, Still, Still” for choir and organ is a lovely choice. The parts are straightforward and repetitive, but in a user-friendly (non-monotonous) way. There is a brief a cappella section, but it can be played with accompaniment if your choir isn’t comfortable singing a cappella. The organ part can also be played on a piano, but some of the loveliness of the arrangement will be lost. Those sustained organ notes add a lot! You will want to spend some time working with your choir on the precise rhythms of the moving notes. The alto line in particular has a lot of dotted rhythms that will probably need some rehearsal. Overall, this is a beautiful, fairly easy, and fairly inexpensive option.
